Biometric Face Recognition
Efaas verification and efaas mobile login uses biometric face checks which includes a liveness check and a face match. This is the biometric analysis of a person's facial movements that is compared with photographs on submitted ID documents. This is to ensure that a person is alive and to make sure of their presence at the time of the identity verification.

Pictures taken during facial recognition is stored with the vendor, Sum and Substance Ltd, who provides facial recognition service for eFaas verification and authentication. This data is protected by Data Protection Legislation including the General Data Protection Regulation ((EU) 2016/679) and regulations and secondary legislation in England and Wales relating to the processing of Personal Data and the privacy of electronic communications, as amended, replaced or updated from time to time, including the Privacy and Electronic Communications Directive (2002/58/EC) and the Privacy and Electronic Communications (EC Directive) Regulations 2003 (SI 2003/2426).

The vendor employs security measures to ensure a level of security appropriate to the risk involved, including as appropriate:

  1. the pseudonymisation and encryption of personal data;
  2. the ability to ensure the ongoing confidentiality, integrity, availability and resilience of processing systems and services;
  3. the ability to restore the availability and access to personal data in a timely manner in the event of a physical or technical incident; and
  4. a process for regularly testing, assessing and evaluating the effectiveness of security measures.
The retention period is currently 5 years. After this period, it is securely deleted.
Facial data captured during verification and authentication is not and will not be shared with other entities or organizations.
We will be providing access to the users to the pictures taken during face recognition in the near future. We are working on introducing privacy and data protection legislation in the Maldives which will provide principles of privacy, rights of the individuals and obligations of the controllers.

In the case of a breach, affected users will be informed and following measures will be taken:

  1. conduct an audit to determine the cause
